Review: Are the Gifts of the Holy Spirit Important Today?
There are two major camps in the body of Christ today. People that believe in the gifts of the Holy Spirit, and people that believe the gifts and baptism of the Holy Spirit passed away with the Apostles. We will see from scripture that Jesus operated in the gifts of the Holy Spirit to validate His ministry. He also instructed the disciples to go and preach the gospel and that signs and wonders would bear witness to the gospel they were preaching. Lastly, scripture says that these same signs will follow every one of us who believe in the gospel of Jesus. There is no scriptural reference that says the signs were temporary and they somehow passed away. The gifts of the Holy Spirit are just as relevant today as they were in the first century church.
In Mark 2:9 Jesus asked the religious leaders, “Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, ‘Your sins are forgiven you,’ or to say, ‘Arise, take up your bed and walk’? But that you may know that the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins”—He said to the paralytic, “I say to you, arise, take up your bed, and go to your house.” Jesus was saying if you don’t believe me, believe the miracles that I do.
In Mark 16:15-20, Jesus told the disciples to go preach the good news. The Holy Spirit will confirm the gospel being preached with signs and wonders. God never intended the Gospel of Jesus Christ to be an intellectual argument. God’s plan is to confirm the gospel with signs and wonders. The passage also assures us that signs and wonders will follow us when we preach the gospel of Jesus.
I think everyone desires to be used by God in a mighty way. We desire to see the miraculous and the supernatural, but most people think it takes great faith or becoming a spiritual giant. Scripture makes it much easier than that. Scripture says when you share the good news of Jesus, signs will follow you. All we need to do is step out in faith. We don’t need to wait for the Holy Spirit to manifest. The Holy Spirit is waiting for us. The true gospel of Jesus will always be confirmed with signs and wonders. You don’t have to be a spiritual giant to be used by God. If you simply believe in Jesus, the signs and wonders will follow you when you share the gospel. God did not send you out to win a spiritual debate. Gods’ plan is for you to share the good news of Jesus, and the Holy Spirit will validate what you said with signs and wonders following.

If there is any situation in your life that needs prayer, ask the Holy Spirit to pray through you for that situation. The Holy Spirit makes intercession for us according to the will of God. It is the perfect prayer and is always answered!
