Review:  From Frustration to Joy

Righteousness is a scriptural word that simply means “being right with God.”  Under the Old Covenant of The Law, you were made righteous by obeying The Law.  The problem is that only Christ could completely obey The Law.  Under the New Covenant, righteousness is a gift.  We believe that Christ was our substitute, and now we receive His righteousness.

If people try to earn their blessings and right standing with God by obeying The Law and trying to “be a good Christian,” they will remain frustrated.  Most believers do not understand why The Law was given.  The Law was actually given to show man how sinful he is and that the only way to be right with God is through our Savior, Jesus Christ.  Romans 5:20 in the New Living Translation says, God’s law was given so that all people could see how sinful they were.”  1 Corinthians 15:56 essentially says the same thing:  “law gives sin its power.”

But thank God, Jesus came to fulfill The Law on man’s behalf.  Acts 13:38-39 says, Therefore let it be known to you, brethren, that through this Man is preached to you the forgiveness of sins; and by Him everyone who believes is justified from all things from which you could not be justified by the law of Moses.”  We are now completely justified because of Jesus’ work on the cross.  Praise God!   Not only that, Romans 8:16 tells us that we have become joint-heirs with Christ.  God does not desire for us to earn our blessings, He wants us to inherit them through our belief in Christ Jesus.

Romans 4:13 tells us, “For the promise that he would be the heir of the world was not to Abraham or to his seed through the law, but through the righteousness of faith.” Romans 4:23-24 tells us that everything that Jesus deserved was “imputed” to us.  The word “imputed” simply means to transfer from one person’s account to another person’s account.  Everything that Jesus deserved was placed in our account.  What an amazing grace!  How does this happen?  By simply believing in Christ Jesus.

You don’t have to be frustrated any longer.  As long as you are trying to earn the blessings of God and please Him, you will remain frustrated and depressed.  Jesus has already earned all of the blessings for you.  Jesus has paid the price for your righteousness, peace, success and protection.  You can rest in everything that Jesus has purchased for you.  2 Corinthians 1:20 tells us,For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.”  When you realize that you are a joint-heir with Christ, even though you don’t deserve it, your frustration will turn to joy.  Praise God!
