Review:  God is Not Angry With You and Punishing You for Your Sins – You Are Redeemed!

Ephesians 1: 7 says, “ In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace.”  This scripture clearly shows us that our sins are forgiven but we are also redeemed.  What does redeem mean?  Redeem is from the Greek word “lutron.”  Thayer’s definition is, “Pay a ransom, liberate many from the misery and penalty of their sins.”  We are redeemed from our iniquities, which is the penalty of sin.  Hebrews 8:12 says,For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.”  Under the Old Covenant, God said he would visit the iniquities of our fathers to the third and fourth generations.  But under the New Covenant, both our sins and the penalty of our sins, or iniquities, God no longer remembers.

This is critical, because many people have the idea that their sins will come back to haunt them.  This is Old Covenant thinking.  Jesus hung on the cross and paid the price for our sins.  Jesus also took the punishment for our sins.  Since God is a just God, He will never punish us for our sins.  He would never judge Jesus and then judge us again.  That would be double jeopardy.

So why aren’t more people walking in redemption?  First many people have not heard the true gospel of Jesus.  You are redeemed!  Jesus is your redeemer.    The more you hear the good news, faith wells up inside you effortlessly.  You also need to speak it out.  Psalm 107: 1-2 says, “Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good!
For His mercy endures forever.  Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, Whom He has redeemed from the hand of the enemy.”  This doesn’t mean thoughtless confessions or vain repetitions.  This means to meditate on the fact that we have redemption through Jesus and to speak out this truth.  No matter what situation you are in, God is not angry with you.  He is not punishing you.  King David himself said in Romans 4:7, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered.”  We are forgiven and we are redeemed.  All that remains is the blessing!
