Review:  Secrets to Supernatural Peace and Favor of God In Jesus’ Birth

The Christmas story in Luke 2 says the angels were “praising God and saying: ‘Glory to God in the highest,
And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!’”  And as a sign, the shepherds would find a “Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.”  The shepherds immediately went to Bethlehem and found baby Jesus.  How did the shepherds know exactly where to go in Bethlehem?  Because Micah 5:2 prophesied the Savior would come out of Bethlehem, and Micah 4:8 prophesied the birth of Christ would be at the “tower of the flock.”

Jewish scholar Alfred Edersheim, in the Life and Times of Jesus, Book 2 Chapter 6 writes that these were not ordinary shepherds and the lambs were not ordinary lambs.  These shepherds watched over the flock outside of Bethlehem that was used for sacrifices at the temple in Jerusalem.  When the ewes were about to give birth, they were taken to a ceremonially clean place at the “tower of the flock.”  When the lambs were born, they were wrapped in swaddling cloths and placed in a manger so they would not cut or injure themselves.  These spotless lambs were then brought to the temple to be sacrificed.  Jesus was born at the exact same place and treated in the exact same manner as all of the sacrificial lambs.  This was an obvious sign to these shepherds.

So what does all of this really mean?  Jesus came as the true sacrificial lamb to bring “peace on earth and goodwill toward men.”  Jesus removed all of our sins, so we could again enjoy peace with God.  Because all of our punishment was placed on Jesus, there is nothing but God’s goodness towards man.  2 Peter 1:2 in the Amplified Bible reiterates this saying, May grace (God’s favor) and peace (which is perfect well-being, all necessary good, all spiritual prosperity, and freedom from fears and agitating passions and moral conflicts) be multiplied to you in [the full, personal, precise, and correct] knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.”  When you know what Jesus did for you on the cross, grace (the supernatural favor of God) and peace (wholeness and perfection in every area) are multiplied in your life.
