Review:  The Blessed Man – Free from Performance Based Christianity

The blessings of God are not based on your performance; they are based on the performance of Jesus.  Romans 4:13-14 states,For the promise that he would be the heir of the world was not to Abraham or to his seed through the law, but through the righteousness of faith.  For if those who are of the law are heirs, faith is made void and the promise made of no effect.”  Abraham did not receive his inheritance by following the law.  Abraham was blessed and received his inheritance because he believed he was righteous by faith. When people believe they are blessed based on their ability to follow the law, faith is made void.  All of the promises are yes and amen because of Jesus, but many believers never experience them because they are still trying to qualify for the blessings.  The good news of Jesus is that He qualified us for every blessing.  Our job in the New Covenant is to renew our mind to this truth every day.  We are under the New Covenant of grace.  Jesus is our health, prosperity, protection and success.

We received the forgiveness of sins and our eternal salvation by simply believing in Jesus Christ.   Every other lesser blessing is experienced in the same way.  Christians are saved through faith, but then fall back into the deception that God will only bless them and do great things through them based on their performance.  Paul corrects the Galatian church for this error in Galatians 5:4.  Paul explained to them that Christ had become of no benefit to them if they were trusting in their own actions in order to be justified with God.  Unfortunately, many believers are not experiencing all of the blessings of God because they are trying to be blessed based on their own efforts.  There is nothing we can add to the perfect work of Jesus Christ.  When we try to earn our blessings, Paul says we have fallen from the high position of grace.

The key to enjoying all of the blessings of God is to simply believe we are righteous through faith.  Believers need to stop trying to earn their blessings, and simply believe that Jesus has already qualified us for every promise.  Even when we miss the mark, the blessings of God are still yes and amen because they are based Jesus’ performance and not our performance.  Praise God!
