Review: The Blood Covenant – God’s Unbreakable Covenant of Grace – Part 2

God is a covenant keeping God. He wants us to know that His favor and blessing is available to us in spite of our performance. If we find ourselves in a difficult situation, God wants us to know “all things work together for good.” God makes even our mistakes to prosper. That is truly a covenant of favor and grace. So no matter what the situation looks like, Romans 8:37 assures us we can have confidence that “we are more than conquerors” due to God’s covenant of love for us.

The Old Testament story of David and Jonathan is another picture of God the Father cutting a covenant with God the Son on man’s behalf. David represents God the Father, and Jonathan represents Jesus. In 2 Samuel 9:1 David says, “Is there still anyone who is left of the house of Saul, that I may show him kindness for Jonathan’s sake?” God wants to show us His covenant of grace because of Jesus, not because of our performance. But Mephibosheth thinks God is full of wrath and judgment, so he hides from God in the desert of LoDebar. LoDebar literally means without word and without pasture. Mephibosheth is a prince, but no one has told him the good news. David does not want to judge him. No, David wants to restore him and bring him back to the palace.

David finally finds Mephibosheth and tells him in 2 Samuel 9:7, “Do not fear, for I will surely show you kindness for Jonathan your father’s sake, and will restore to you all the land of Saul your grandfather; and you shall eat bread at my table continually.” Our job is to let the world know that God wants to bless them and show them grace because of Jesus. We have the privilege of being sons in the Kingdom of God and eat at the King’s table forever because Jesus entered into a covenant with God the Father. God is not out to judge you. All of God’s judgment was placed on Jesus. God is eager to bless you. He wants you to be sure that His covenant of favor and grace is unbreakable. No matter what the situation looks like “He will surely show you kindness” because of Jesus!

Prayer 1: 10 Minutes:

If there is any situation in your life that needs prayer, ask the Holy Spirit to pray through you for that situation. The Holy Spirit makes intercession for us according to the will of God. It is the perfect prayer and is always answered!
