Review:  When We Rest, God Works

A lot of Christian teaching emphasizes what we must do in order for God to respond.  We are told things like “surrender all, love God with all your heart, dedicate yourself and vow to live for the Lord.”  All of these suggestions sound noble on the surface, but New Covenant living involves receiving what Jesus accomplished for us on the cross and entering into His rest.  God desires for us to enjoy His Kingdom.  There were no instructions in the Old Covenant on how to pray because the Old Covenant was all about what we must do.   When Jesus gave the Sermon on the Mount, He explains that the Kingdom of God is very different than life under The Law.  In the Kingdom, the blessings of God are not earned.  They are free gifts from God.  We are given instructions to simply ask the Father, and we will receive.

When we try work for our blessings by being a better Christian, or making commitments and vows to God, God rests.  But when we rest in God’s promises, the Holy Spirit goes to work and confirms the truth of God’s blessings.  The focus of the New Covenant is not about what we must do.  It is about freely receiving everything that Jesus accomplished for us on the cross.  1 Corinthians 1:18,21 say, For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.  It pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.” When people hear the truth, the power of God changes people from the inside out.  God’s miracle working power brings healing, deliverance and breakthroughs in people’s lives.  God’s power, which brings salvation in every area of our lives, does not come about by making vows, or following steps and formulas.  In other words, it does not come about by our works.  Instead, we are saved in every area of our lives when we hear and believe the truth.

If you need a breakthrough in life, keep hearing the promises of God that deal with your situation.  2 Corinthians 1:20 says, “For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen.”  Jesus has qualified you for every promise.  If you need healing, the answer is yes!  If you need provision, the answer is yes.  If you need a breakthrough, the answer is yes!  All of God’s promises do not come about by our own efforts.  When you work for your blessings, God rests.  But when you rest in God’s promises, He works.  In Luke 12:32 Jesus says, “It is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.”  Keep hearing and speaking God’s promises over your life.  The Holy Spirit will go to work and confirm the truth with the miracles, healings and breakthroughs God has promised.  Praise God!
