Review: Hope – Even When You Have Failed
Proverbs 28:1says, “The wicked flee when no one pursues, But the righteous are bold as a lion.” It’s easy to be bold and expect blessings when we feel like we have been “pretty good,” but what about when we have failed? The great news of the New Covenant is that even when we have failed, God’s blessings and favor are still flowing to us. The reason we can be confident that God is blessing us is the fact that righteousness in the New Covenant is a free gift. Romans 5:17-18 tells us, “For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ. Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.”
We don’t need to live in fear and anxiety when we have failed. It is in those times we need to remind ourselves that our righteousness is a gift purchased by Jesus on the cross. Jesus didn’t come to condemn us for our failures; He came to save us. Our boldness and confidence that God is blessing us does not come from our efforts; it comes from the security of being in Christ.
Hebrews 4:16 states “Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.” God’s throne is not a throne of judgment. It is a throne of grace. In other words, we don’t have to earn the supernatural favor of God. Even when we have failed, and know we could never qualify for God’s blessings, we can come to God and He responds to us as a loving Father. We will find mercy and favor in time of need.
James 5:16 says, “The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” You are the righteous man this scripture is talking about. You can be confident that God hears your prayers and your prayers will avail much! Even when you have failed, you can boldly claim every one of God’s promises. You can have hope because God will not respond to you based on your failures, He responds to you based on the perfect work of Jesus Christ. So go boldly to the throne of God. He will overwhelm you with His mercy and grace and save you in times of need.
Prayer: 10 Minutes:
If there is any situation in your life that needs prayer, ask the Holy Spirit to pray through you for that situation. The Holy Spirit makes intercession for us according to the will of God. It is the perfect prayer and is always answered!
