Review:  How To Live in Abraham’s Blessings

What does it really mean to be redeemed from the curse of the law?  How do we receive the blessings of Abraham?  The good news is that we receive both of these things simply by believing in Jesus.

If you asked most people what being redeemed from the curse means, they would say if you obey God, you are free from the curse, but if you disobey, you will experience the curse.  That is redundant.  Why would there be a curse if you obeyed God?  The truth is that today, even when you sin, there is no curse!  Jesus redeemed us from the curse so that we can freely receive the blessing of Abraham.

Did Abraham receive the blessings of God because of his obedience?  No way.  Abraham lied about his wife twice, yet God continued to bless him. Abraham was under a covenant of grace, meaning the blessings were not earned by his obedience.  Romans 4:13says,For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but through the righteousness of faith.”  In other words, Abraham was not blessed because he kept the law.  He was blessed because he believed God would send His Son, Jesus, to be our substitute.  Jesus took all of the curses for us.  Today when we sin, we don’t have to be in fear that God will punish us.  Instead of being cursed, we are blessed!  This defies human logic, but this is the “too good to be true news” of Jesus Christ.

Even when Abraham sinned and made mistakes, he was still blessed.  Why?  Because Abraham was righteous by faith. Abraham was blessed because he believed in a Savior, not whether he sinned or not.    Many people are bound and not receiving all that God has for them because they have been taught the blessings are a result of their law keeping.  But Romans 4:14 says,  “For if they which are of the law be heirs, faith is made void, and the promise made of none effect.”  When you think the blessings come from your law keeping, faith is no longer effective in your life.  You qualify for all of Abraham’s blessings simply by believing in Jesus.  Just like Abraham, we are under a covenant of grace.  Even when you fail, you are not cursed, you are blessed!  What an amazing Savior!  You can rest from trying to be “good enough” and simply know you are righteous by faith.  Then the blessings of God will flow freely in your life.

Prayer:  10 Minutes:

If there is any situation in your life that needs prayer, ask the Holy Spirit to pray through you for that situation.  The Holy Spirit makes intercession for us according to the will of God.  It is the perfect prayer and is always answered!
