Review:  Praying in the Spirit – Enjoy the Rest and Refreshing of Jesus

The first thing that God did when the Holy Spirit was given at Pentecost was to heal their tongue.  When people received the Holy Spirit in the New Testament, they always spoke with a new tongue, or new language other than their native language.  This is obviously a precious gift, yet most denominations place little value on the gifts of the Spirit or completely explain away the gifts.  This is one of the main reasons many believers are not enjoying the rest, refreshing and victory that Jesus accomplished for us on the cross.

Even in the Old Testament, we see types and shadows of the gifts of the Holy Spirit.  In the Old Testament, typically only the priests, prophets and kings were anointed with the Holy Spirit.  In every case, when the people were anointed, the Holy Spirit always affected their tongue and they would prophesy.  We see this when Samuel anointed Saul in 1 Samuel 10.  Saul was an ordinary man, but became a king with honor and dignity after the anointing.  Saul also began to prophesy.  We also see this when the spirit that was on Moses was given to the seventy elders.  Numbers 11:25 says, “And the Lord came down in a cloud, and spake unto him, and took of the spirit that was upon him, and gave it unto the seventy elders: and it came to pass, that, when the spirit rested upon them, they prophesied, and did not cease.

The prophet Joel prophesied that a day would come when the Holy Spirit would be poured out on everyone.  When the Holy Spirit was poured out on all flesh, we would all be made kings and priests.  We would all speak with new tongues. In Mark 16:17 Jesus clearly states that everyone that believes in Him will speak with a new tongue.  This amazing gift would no longer be for a select few.

These prophecies obviously came to pass at Pentecost.  When we pray in the spirit, the Holy Spirit gives us the words to pray.  They are perfect prayers that are always answered.  When we pray in the spirit, every bondage and hindrance of the enemy is broken.  The miracle working power of God Himself is released when we pray in the spirit.  We do not need to battle the enemy with human strength.  We can simply pray in the spirit.

In addition, when we pray in the spirit, we are speaking the magnificent and conspicuous favor of God over our lives.  If you need a breakthrough in your business or career, you can pray in the spirit and you will see your breakthrough.  We are in an unbreakable covenant of grace.  Our Father desires for us to prosper and be in health.  When we pray in the spirit, it is the perfect prayer to bring us into the prosperity and health that Jesus accomplished for us on the cross.  Jesus made it very clear that the Father desires to give us the Kingdom and all we need to do is ask.  Now we know that when we pray in the spirit, the Holy Spirit Himself asks perfectly on our behalf.  Praying in the Holy Spirit brings us into the rest, refreshing and victory that Jesus desires for us.  Praise God!
